Artist's Statement: All my life, I have enjoyed the company of smart, confident and thoughtful women. Some are family, some are close friends. I am who I am because of them, and my art reflects the qualities that I admire most in these exceptional people -- kindness, beauty, strength, femininity, warmth, resilience, joy, compassion and hopefulness. My sculptural representations of these admirable qualities incorporate insulation foam, hand-made paper, fabric, ribbon, yarn, botanicals, feathers, paint, found objects and more. Each work features an empowering, inspirational message that celebrates the beauty of women, nature, love and more.
About Me: I am a self-taught artist living in Madison, Wisconsin. Years ago, inspired by Outsider Artists, I began my art explorations with painted furniture, floor cloths, driftwood assemblages, garden windmills, and more recently, animal-themed sculptures made from insulation foam and paper. The folk art sculptures that are the focus of my current work began in 2023. I am a juried member of both the 14 South Artists Group and the Madison Art Guild.
Giving Back: Civic involvement is important to me. After a long career in health care administration and marketing, I serve on the board of directors at Artworking, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides career development support for artists and entrepreneurs with disabilities. These artists and their unabashed energy are so inspiring to me. I am also on the board of the proposed Madison Public Market. Last, I founded and organize the annual Hill Farms Art Walk, where I encourage amateur and professional neighborhood artists to share their work. The May 2024 Art Walk hosted 36 artists in 18 locations.
